In May of this year (2018), my DLT.SG journey began. After several years in FINTECH, banking and related software platforms, I was on a long search for finding something which can be a total disruption, a technology framework which can create a desire to create and not maintain.

After many years in the FinTech space, I was considering going academical for an year or two to explore new technologies. However, fate had better plans. I got an interview opportunity with DLT.SG through someone who knew my passion for technology and my past work on Natural language processing(NLP) and blockchain. Though apprehensive at first, when I researched more on the products and technology, DLT.SG’s unique platform caught my eye. It was like, the time I used to take out to pursue my passion for new technologies was all that I needed to do even at work.

What I thought was going to be a typical rigid interview process, turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Instead of jumping into the bland algorithm-based interview process, I was interviewed of the back of a coffee joint, followed by 2 more detail interviews with CTO and team.  The informal, casual conversation we had made me feel like I was getting to know new friends who were excited about the idea of me and what I wanted to seek in creation. Additionally, I completed a two-hour programming exercise, working to solve a hypothetical bug within the platform. This was much better than an algorithm question because I really got a sense of what I was going to be working on and the processes applied.

My “aha!” career moment

During my time in university, I developed a love for product engineering and organizational software, opened my eyes to the ways we can use inter-connected enterprises in next-generation technologies, complex math, and algorithms for all kinds of applications. I had this acumen for creation rather than maintaining the existing.

Working on anything with a real-world application using math and algorithms, with extremely interesting code framework, to help people in need was satisfying and set me on a path that would eventually lead me to DLT.SG. Although we are not there yet, there is a dream of building interconnected blockchain for inter-enterprise level platforms, more like an ERP in blockchain; in a way that’s never been done before, and that’s pretty exciting.

Growing into my role at DLT.SG

When I first started, I felt a bit of apprehension that I have never worked in a start up. Rules were very different. I have to find my own desk and coffee; I didn’t have an HR; My teams were all extremely informal wiz kids and they were running all around me. Everybody knew what they were doing and they all had that passion that I had in me. It was not a managed environment that I used to work for the last 15 years; Instead it was a result oriented and targeted set of acts. I felt that I was a part of it.  Working with so many people with extensive experience and impressive track records was a little intimidating. But right away, I felt very welcome thanks to the engineering team and CTO Suji Thampi, who has worked tirelessly to help me adopt and fuel my personal growth.

Today, I’m proud to be adding genuine value to the team. And now, just a few months after being hired, I look forward coming to work because I love who I work with…even with their fascination with flat earth theory. I have felt that we are a set of dreamers and we naturally down work that hard, we just play with codes to create.

A glimpse into my future at DLT.SG

To say the least, my future at looks bright. In the last six months, I have done and learned more than what I did in my last 13 years in engineering. One exciting, growing area at is securitisation of blockchain. At its most basic level, securitisation is the practice of using algorithms to digitise assets in transit, build a short term derivative, and then make a risk free prediction into letting anybody invest. Put simply, it’s math, and I love math.

The future of DLT.SG looks extremely exciting from where I’m standing. It’s not just anywhere you get the opportunity to work with a collaborative and creative team who constantly shows that they value your perspective—and your puns. When it comes to the possibility of a flat earth, I maintain that the only thing we have to fear is sphere itself.
